The Art of Defining

Ontology has always been a defining feature of what makes philosophy what it is.
I have been pondering on it for a while and I've come to a soft conclusion that ontology, specifically the act of defining a word or term, is a demonstration of the highest orders of thinking possible by a human. My meta theory is a guide to ontology of sorts but it is by no means an exact method.
The cognition, creativity and awareness required to accurately define a word or term in a manner that is truthful over time and provides shared understanding is impossible to measure.
It is not something which can be easily measured but I would argue the ultimate measure for intelligence is the ability to define things.
